Lonnie D. Hodge Sr.
10 December 1941 — 22 March 2009

Lonnie D. Hodge Sr. age 67 of Columbus, Kansas passed away Sunday March 22, 2009 at the Medicalodge of Columbus after a short illness.

Lonnie was born December 10, 1941 in Peel Arkansas the son of Hershel and Alma (Jones) Hodge. He moved here in 1943. He owned and operated the One Stop Car Wash in Columbus for 22 years. He worked at Gulf Chemical near Crestline, Kansas for six years and B.F. Goodrich for 17 years. He hauled water for local residence and farmers, and Neil Roberts IGA in Columbus, Kansas. He graduated from Cherokee County Rural High School in Columbus, Kansas in 1960. He was a member of the United States Army Reserves.

He married Virginia Rae Scovell December 31, 1965 in Vinita, Oklahoma and later divorced in 1986.

Memberships include American Legion, Keith Reeves Post #3 Columbus, Kansas.

Survivors include two sons Lonnie D. Hodge Jr. of Columbus and James Hodge of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and one daughter Teresa Spatafora Weber of Joplin, Missouri; four brothers Fred Hodge, H.L. Hodge, Otto Hodge and Dee Hodge all of rural Columbus, Kansas; two sisters Ruth Marrow of Florida, Sybil Koger of rural Columbus, Kansas; five grandchildren—Cody, Madison, Shayna Rae, Josh, Justin.

He was preceded in death by one sister Ruby Waters in 1984.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday March 26, 2009 at the Simpson Funeral Home in Columbus with Bob Simon officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday March 25, 2009. Burial will be in the City Cemetery in Columbus. Family asked that memorial be to the local American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. Friends may come by after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
