Anna Marie Martin
12 September 1927 — 18 November 2008

Anna Marie Martin, 81, died at 5:08 a.m. November 18, 2008 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. Anna Marie had been a resident of Cornerstone Village, Pittsburg, for the past 21 months, after living on a rural Cherokee farm for 52 years.

Anna was born on September 12, 1927 in rural Scammon. Her parents were John Hilary and Agnes B. O'Malley. She graduated from West Mineral High School in the class of 1946. Anna Marie married Leo Martin on August 21, 1954 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Robert O'Malley.

Prior to her marriage Anna Marie worked at 1st National Bank of Columbus and the Berry Garment Factory and worked at the Lone Elm election board many years. She was a member of St. Bridget's Church in Scammon. The couple reside on their farm south of Cherokee and raised Shorthorn cattle and were members of the Shorthorn Association. She was very active in her children's activities: 4-H, football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and continued to follow local sports and school activities with her grandchildren.

Survivors are her children, Becky Medved and her husband, Richard Martin of Olathe; Gregg and his wife Linda of rural Scammon; Jeff Martin and his wife Betty of rural Scammon; and Regina Peak and her husband Darrell of rural Scammon. Her grandchildren are Jesica Workman, DVM and husband Mark of Royce City, TX; Chris Martin and wife Cory, Carolyn Medved of Lawrence; Eric, Chris, and Lauren Medved of Olathe; Sarah Martin of Manhattan; Brian and Blake Martin of Scammon; Kevin Peak of Scammon; and Janet Peak of Manhattan.

The rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., with visitation to follow, on Thursday, November 20 at the Simpson Funeral Home, 323 S. Kansas, Columbus, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at the St. Bridget's Church in Scammon, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 21, with Father Chrysostom Ah Maung officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bridget's cemetery in Scammon. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home, 323 S. Kansas, Columbus, KS. The family suggests memorial donations in lieu of flowers to St. Bridget's for a memorial fund in Anna Marie Martin's name.
