Maud (Patch) Griffitt

Maud (Patch) Griffitt, age 101 of rural Columbus, KS died Wednesday, July 2,
2008 at the Oswego Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Maud was born January 12, 1907 at her home near Hallowell, KS the daughter of
H.S. and Nettie (Lewis) Patch. She married Jess Griffitt on July 11, 1925 in
Girard, KS and he preceded her in death in 1964.
Maud is survived by one daughter, Viola Zwahlen of Grove, OK and one son and
daughter-in-law Raymond and Shirley Griffitt of Hallowell and nine
grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, thirty-eight
great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild, and a great
loving friend Louise Pender.
Maud was preceded in death by her parents, one brother John Patch, and four
sisters, Mabel Chase, Edna Hanks, Ruth Guy, and Mattie Fornelli, and son-in-law
Harvey Zwahlen, four grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Maud lived on a farm near Hallowell, KS for most of her life. She was a
homemaker and beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt. She worked as a cook for
the road crew that built portions of Highway 71. She also worked for a year at
the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant during WW II. Maud lived her life as a
hard-working farmer's wife, gardener, fisherman, cook, and friend to all kids.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday July, 7, 2008 at the Simpson Funeral
Home in Columbus with Dennis Johnson, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the
McKee Cemetery in Hallowell. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
Sunday July 6, 2008 at the funeral home.
