Helen M. (Shufelt-Raven) Trahern

Helen M. (Shufelt-Raven) Trahern, age 65, of Sherwin, Kansas passed away 12:30 p.m. Wednesday April 25, 2007 at the St. Johns Regional Medical Center Joplin, MO after an illness.

She was born October 12, 1941 in Coffeyville, KS the daughter of Robert L. and Minta Maxine (Hoppock) Shufelt. She graduated from the Edna High School in 1958. She worked in area hospitals and nursing homes in the area the last being St. Johns Regional Medical Center as a cook.

She married William (Bill) Raven and they later divorced. Then she married V.L. Trahern and he preceded her in death.

She lived in Edna, then moved to Melrose and moved to Sherwin, Kansas for the last 12 years.

Memberships include United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star both in Edna, KS.

Survivors include one son Jim Raven of Sherwin, two daughters Rhonda Zook of Columbus, and Brenda Cooper of Weldona, CO; and one brother David Shufelt of Lawrence, KS and three sisters Mary Mahon of Lewisville, TX, Barbara Buzard of Wichita, KS and Leslie McConnell of Parsons, KS; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and several aunts and uncles.

The family will have visitation from 6-7p.m. Friday April 27, 2007 at the Simpson Funeral Home in Columbus, KS. Burial of the cremains will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Edna North Cemetery Edna, KS, with Dennis Johnson, Pastor officiating. The family ask memorials be left in Helen's name at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the Simpson Funeral Home 323 S. Kansas Ave. Columbus, KS 66725.
