Evelyn Irene Stone, 91 passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at 1:40 a.m. after a long illness with Alzheimers.

She was born June 16, 1915, in Joplin, Missouri to Walter R. and Lottie (Dalton) Cook. During her youth, Evelyn lived at the Old Shively Place near Bell Center attending Lowell School through the third grade. Her family later moved to the Galena area where she completed her education attending Roosevelt and Galena schools in that district. She was a lifetime area resident of rural Galena. Evelyn was a homemaker and a housewife. She was of the Assembly of God faith, and was involved many years in teaching Sunday School classes for both adult and children.

Evelyn was married to Ellis Leo Stone, Sr. for 46 years until he preceded her in death in 1979. She was also preceded in death by three sisters Mable Messer; Inah Hoyt; Florence Lee; and three brothers Quinten Cook; Paul Cook; Clifford Cook. Evelyn is survived by a sister Dot Stone of Galena, KS; four children Beaulah Hodge of rural route Galena, KS; Leaulah Hodge of rural route Columbus, KS; Ellis Leo Stone, Jr., of rural route Galena, KS; and Judy J. Vanek of Linn Valley, KS; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday September 8, 2006 at the Park Cemetery Columbus, KS. Family suggest memorials in Evelyn's memory be contributed to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left or mailed to the Simpson Funeral Home 323 S. Kansas Ave. Columbus, KS 66725.
