Lawrence W. George 84 of Columbus, KS died on August 17, 2006 at the Mt. Carmel
Medical Center in Pittsburg, KS. He was born January 15, 1922 in Columbus, KS
the son of Walter George and Clara Unger George. He spent his entire life in
Columbus, until February of 2006 when he and his wife, Emma, moved to
Cornerstone, in Pittsburg, KS.
He worked as a shoe repairman for Andy and Nora Depola for 13 years before going
to work at B.F. Goodrich in Miami for 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed
gardening and was an avid fisherman on the Neosho River.
Lawrence married Emma Burton on March 26, 1941. She survives.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Columbus, KS and the United
Rubber Cork, Lindleum and Plastic Workers of America.
Additional survivors include 2 sons David George of Pittsburg, KS and Joe George
of Baxter Springs, KS, 3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and a host of
nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Leonard and Kakey
George.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday August 19, 2006 at the Simpson Funeral
Home in Columbus, KS with the Rev. Dennis Johnson and the Rev. Dan Haggard
officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery Rural Columbus, KS. The
family asked for a time of visiting from 1:30 till service time at the funeral
home. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday Aug. 18, 2006 at the
Simpson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers family suggest memorial contributions
to the Arthritis Foundation Kansas Chapter and may be left at or sent to Simpson
