Paul Walker, age 84 of rural McCune, Kansas passed away September 3, 2004 at his
home after an illness.
Born July 29, 1920 at Sherman City, Kansas the 2nd twin of Nichlas and Nora
(Trammell) Walker. He graduated from the Columbus High School in Columbus,
Kansas. He was a U.S. Veteran serving as Electrician's Mate, second Classs (T),
V3 USNR March 6, 1942 til his discharge on October 30, 1945, in the U.S. Navy in
the South Pacific for 32 months on the USS Wyoming and the USS PC 623 during the
battles of Leyte, Philippine Islands, Lingayen, Luzon, Philippine Islands and
the Reoccupation of Nusugbu, Luzon. He participated in the invasion and
occupation of the Peleliu, Palau Islands for which he and his shipmates were
decorated for the saving of many lives while under enemy fire. Paul served his
country well and never waivered in his love for life.
He was a farmer and an electrician in the Sherman City area most of his life.
He married Leona Henry on May 23, 1982 in Sherman City, Kansas. She survives of
the home.
He was a favorite of all his nieces and nephews.
Additional survivors include two step sons Michael Dickens and Dennis Dickens
both of Hermiston, Oregon; several nieces and nephews. His beloved brothers Jim
Walker and Dempsy Walker both of Independence, Kansas and two sisters Bertha
Allen of McCune, Kansas and Mary Bradfield of Parsons, Kansas; 5 step
grandchildren and 1 step great-grandchild
He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers, John Alex, Homer,
Robert, Howard, and his twin Nicholas and 2 sisters Margaret Woods and Helen
Best.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 7, 2004 at the Simpson Funeral
Home Columbus, Kansas with the Rev. Jim Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the
Sherman City Cemetery, Sherman City, Kansas. family will receive friends from
6-7 p.m. Monday evening. At the Simpson Funeral Home in Columbus, Kansas. In
lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Mr. Walkers' name at the St.
Johns Hospice of Joplin, Missouri. Memorials may be left at the Simpson Funeral
Home 323 S. Kansas Ave. Columbus, Kansas 66725 which is in charge of the
arrangements.
