Maxine Simkin
13 October 1923 — 25 September 2004

Maxine Simkin passed away on September 25, 2004 at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.

She was born October 13, 1923 at Crestline, Kansas, the daughter of Harry E. and Dora (Sims) Anderson and attended schools in Cherokee County, graduating from C.C.C.H.S. in 1941. She then attended the Joplin Business College and became employed with the Jayhawk Plant personnel department and later with the Maxwell Bridge Company of Columbus, Ks. then the Cherokee County Health Department of Columbus, Ks.

She married Fred (Ted) W. Simkin, Jr. on June 19, 1948 in Columbus, Ks. and resided most of her life at 321 W. Pine.

Survivors include her husband of the home and three children: Martha Louise Wells-Smith of Fort Scott, Ks., Thomas Fred Simkin of Joplin, Mo. and Curtis Eric Simkin of Tulsa, Ok. and six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and her brother Harry E. Anderson of Columbus, Ks.

Maxine served for many years as the treasurer of the Columbus Presbyterian Church and also as elder. She was a source of comfort and strength to her family and will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Graveside Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday September 28, 2004 at the City Cemetery Columbus, Ks. with the Rev. Susan Rosenbaum officiating and the Simpson Funeral Home of Columbus, Ks. in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to or left for the First Presbyterian Church at the Simpson Funeral Home 323 S. Kansas Columbus, Ks. 66725.
