John R. Saporito, 62 of Columbus, Kansas passed away March 4, 2004 at the St. Johns-Maude Norton Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Kansas.

He was born March 20, 1941 at Columbus, Kansas the son of Louie and Josephine (Carpino) Saporito. He grew up and attended the Mineral Grade School and graduated from CCRHS (Cherokee County Rural High School) in Columbus, Kansas. He entered the U.S. Army on 8 Jan. 1962 and was honorably discharged on 31 Dec. 1967.

He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 35 years retiring in 1999.

He married Carol Shenherr on May 7, 1969 at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Columbus, Kansas. She survives of the home.

His memberships include St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Scammon, Kansas; the American Legion Post in Columbus, Ks. and the Brush Creek Antique Tractor Club

Additional survivors include two sons Douglas Saporito of the home, and Mathew Christopher Saporito of the home; three brothers Frank Saporito of Weir, Kansas, Richard Saporito of Pittsburg, Kansas and Tom Saporito of Columbus, Kansas; one sister Mary Jean Martin of Parsons, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday (March 8, 2004) at the St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Scammon, Ks. with the Father Chrysostom Ah Maung officiating. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday March 7, 2004 at the Simpson Funeral Home in Columbus, Kansas. Family will receive friends till 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Assoc. or the Columbus Community Foundation or left at the Simpson Funeral Home 323 S. Kansas Ave. Columbus, Kansas.
