Mark A. Hemphill Sr., 48, of rural McCune died Thursday morning, March 25, 2004 after the stress of a long illness.

He was born January 22, 1856 in Miami, Okla., the son of Earl and Shirley (Goodrich) Hemphill. He grew up and graduated from the Columbus Unified High School in Columbus. He worked as a painter for a manufacturing company.

He was baptized in Center Christian Church of rural Columbus.

Survivors include a son, Mark A. Hemphill Jr., of the home; a brother, Steve Hemphill of rural Columbus; a sister, Janiece Hemphill-Chavez of Pittsburg; his parents; three nephews; two great-nieces; and a great-nephew.

According to his wishes the body will be cremated.

No formal services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Simpson Funeral Home of Columbus.
