Joan Calvin age 67 of Rural Columbus, Ks passed away Sunday October 31, 2004 at the St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri after an illness.

Joan died with her family by her side.

Joan was born January 8, 1937 at Columbus, Kansas the daughter of Ralph and Gladys Marie (Lair) Patton. She attended schools in Columbus area receiving her GED from CCCRHS, in Columbus, Ks. She worked as a Control Officer at the Labette County Correctional Camp in Oswego, Kansas.

She attended Center Christian Church Columbus, Kansas She was a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Columbus, Kansas, holding the office in Order of Eastern Star as Worthy Matron several times. She was a great supporter of all her grandchildren in all sports and 4-H activities.

She married Mac Calvin in 1974. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Survivors include one daughter and son in law Connie and Rod Abbott of Columbus, Kansas. One brother Donald Lee Patton of Columbus, Kansas. Five grandchildren India Abbott of Monkey Island, Oklahoma, Chad Zook of Kansas City, Missouri, Cody Zook Columbus, Kansas, Ashton Abbott of Columbus, Kansas and Jordyn Abbott of Columbus, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by one daughter Rena Zook Jan. 9, 2002

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday (November 2, 2004) at the Center Christian Church SW. of Columbus, Kansas, with the Reverend Tom Goettel and Reverend Justin Coberley officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Elm Cemetery north east of Columbus, Kansas. Family suggest memorials be made to the 4-H Council and may be left at the Simpson Funeral Home 323 S. Kansas Ave. Columbus, Ks.
