Gilbert William Bauer

Gilbert William Bauer, age 85, of Columbus, Kansas passed away Friday evening
(Feb. 27, 2004) in Columbus, Ks. after a long and fulfilled life.
He was born February 21, 1919 at Haskell, New Jersey the son of John Valentine
and Theodosha Margaret (Fowler) Bauer.
He was a member of the U.S. Army Special Services serving in WW II. He served
as Honor Guard for President Roosevelt. He worked for the Diell Constuction Co.
in Pittsburg, Ks. for a number of years retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Commerce Community Christian Church, Commerce, Ok.,
V.F.W. Joe Carter Post and American Legion Post #3 both of Columbus, Kansas
He married Anna M. Evans on Sept. 9, 1945, she preceded him in death Oct. 5,
1981. He then married Fern Walker Hart on July 26, 1982, she survives of the
home.
Additional survivors include one son Don Bauer and wife Elizabeth of Columbia,
Mo. Two daughters Marilyn Epler and husband Tom of Columbus, Kansas, Jane Ann
Turner and husband Gregg of Columbus, Kansas. One step son Jean Hart and wife
Louise of Columbus, Ks. Two step daughters Sue Moore and husband Tub of Galena,
Kansas; Mary Ann Morgan and Mike Crossland of Galena, Kansas. 6 gandchildren:
Charlie Epler of Columbus, Kansas; Brit Bauer of Columbus, Kansas; Lizzie
Roberts of Columbus, Kansas; Colby Bauer of Joplin, Missouri; Alex Harwell of
Columbia, Mo. and Christina Harwell of Columbia, Missouri. 3 great
grandchildren: Oliver Bauer of Columbus, Kansas; Liberty Moore of Crestline,
Kansas; Lane Moore of Crestline, Ks. 2 brothers Warren Bauer of New Jersey and
Jonny Bauer of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by granddaughter Baylee Bauer and brother Danny Bauer
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday (March 2, 2004) at the Simpson Funeral
Home in Columbus, Kansas with the Rev. Bob Rabel and the Rev. Aaron Williams
officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Columbus, Kansas. The
family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday (March 1, 2004 at the Simpson
Funeral Home. The family suggest in lieu of flowers that donations may be made
to the Columbus Community Foundation or the Community Hospice of Joplin, Mo. and
may be mailed or left at the Simpson Funeral Home.
