Mae Ellen Simpson

Mae Ellen Simpson, 82, of rural Scammon, Kansas passed away at her home at 9:40
a. m., Monday, March 17, 2003.
Mrs. Simpson was born on June 5, 1920, in the Lone Elm District of Cherokee
County, Kansas, the daughter of Par Leander and Rhoda L. Meriwether Sandberg.
She attended Lone Elm Grade School and graduated from Columbus High School with
the Class of 1938. She married Robert Marion Simpson on March 24, 1946. The
couple resided on their farm at rural Scammon where Mae lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 9, 1982. She was also preceded
in death by her parents and two brothers, Floyd Sandberg and Roy Sandberg.
Mae was a member of the First Christian Church of Columbus, Kansas. She was a
loving mother and grandmother and very involved in the activities of her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors are son, Bill and his wife Sue Simpson of rural Columbus, daughters,
Barbara Simpson of rural Scammon and Betty and her husband Jeff Martin of rural
Scammon, Kansas; grandchildren, Jeffrey Simpson and his wife Shelly, Jason
Simpson and his wife Tracy, of Columbus, Sarah, Brian and Blake Martin of rural
Scammon and great-grandchildren, Baylee, Ashley, Grant and Austyn Simpson of
Columbus, Kansas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p. m., Wednesday, March 19,
2003, at Simpson Funeral Home, 323 S Kansas, Columbus, Kansas. Funeral services
will be held at the First Christian Church, Columbus, Kansas with the Reverend
Dennis Johnson and Reverend Joe Gentzler officiating at 10:30 a.m., Thursday,
March 20, 2003 with interment at Lone Elm Cemetery. Memorial donations can be
made to the Cherokee County 4-H Council.
