Robert Lee Best

Robert Lee Best of Columbus, Kansas passed away 12:15 p.m. Friday July 18, 2003 at the St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. after an illness.

Mr. Best was born June 13, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Clyde M. and Flora E. Best. He was raised in the Ft. Dodge, Kansas area. He joined the United States Navy in June 18, 1943 aand was honorably discharged on March 29, 1946.

He was a longtime member of the Keith Reeves Post #3 in Columbus, Kansas and the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church of Columbus, Kansas

He was employed at the Spencer Chemical Co. in 1966 and retired from Chevron in 1984.

Survived by 1 brother and wife Dean and Mary Lou Best of Tulsa, Ok., two beloved nephews Steven Dean Best of Tulsa, Ok. and David and Terri Best of Owasso, Ok. Also three grand nephews Bradley and Crystal Best of Tulsa, Ok., Alex and Daniel Best of Owasso, Ok. Also surviving are his faithful and loving friends Sue and Chuck McPherson, Marty and Melissa Allen and family, Jeff and Addie McPherson family, Jason and Dana Allison Family and Joe Allison

He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving companion of 25 years Mary Higgins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday July 21, 2003 by Rev. Dennis Johnson at the City Cemetery in Columvus, Kansas. American Legion Keith Reeves Post #3 will also conduct graveside rites. Family suggest friends meet at the cemetery. Memorial has been est. in Mr. Best name to the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and gifts may be left at the Simpson Funeral Home 323 S. Kansas Columbus, Kansas which is in charge of the arrangements.
