Simpson Funeral Home, located at 323 South Kansas in Columbus, is operated by
Jeff and Shelly Simpson. Jeff has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer
for 14 years. He is a 1988 graduate of Columbus Unified High School and a 1989
graduate of Kansas City, Ks. Community College with a degree in mortuary arts.
Shelly is a teacher paraprofessional at Central Junior High in Columbus. She is
originally from Nevada, Mo. Jeff and Shelly Simpson reside at the funeral home
apartment. The have two children, Baylee and Ashley.
Bill and Sue Simpson bought the former Jorden Funeral Home in the summer of 2000
and opened October 1, 2000. Jeff and Shelly bought the funeral home in 2002 from
his father. Since then considerable work and renovation has been made to the
lovely and charming early 1900s home. Complete handicapped accessibility is
provided. The interior has been completely decorated providing a home-like
atmosphere in a quiet neighborhood. Exterior improvements have made the business
an asset to the Columbus community. Future plans include additional merchandise
display area. Our primary focus is to provide a locally owned and operated
funeral home in Columbus with small town values and integrity that people can
depend on that comes with knowing the local hometown folks.
Our family is involved with local community events, having supported school
functions, Columbus Chamber of Commerce, 4-H, Kiwanis Club, Prudence Lodge No.
100, Mirza Temple Shriners and various other activities.
They are assisted by Bill and Sue Simpson, Eric Schmelzer and Troy Bastion.
Bill Simpson retired from the Columbus school district after 31 years of service
in education. He is a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and was raised on a
farm near Scammon. He is also involved with the family farm operation. Bill
graduated from Southeast High School and Pittsburg State College. Sue Simpson
was originally from Carl Junction, Mo. They reside in rural Columbus.
Eric is married to Mandi Allen and they have two children, Lauren and Lindi Jo.
They reside in rural Columbus. Troy and his wife Susan have three children,
Amity, Victoria, and Nicholas. They reside in Pittsburg.
Our goal is to provide the very best service that can possibly be provided at
